René van der Gijp would like to see Ron Jans as a trainer at Ajax, he said on Monday in the KieftJansenEgmondGijp podcast. The analyst believes that the current FC Utrecht coach is ideally suited to put together a mediocre team, so that ‘the Sutalos of this world can do their best’.
Van der Gijp was disappointed again last weekend by Ajax, who drew 2-2 at home against NEC. In his podcast, the former attacker states that it will take the Amsterdam team at least four or five years to get back to the desired level.
“The nice thing is that many people think that you will get Ajax back on track within a year or two, but that will take four or five years,” says Van der Gijp. “It all went to hell quickly.”
“Of course, it all started when Tadic stopped doing much and Blind was also on his last legs. And if I look at Ajax now, I see that you can get rid of 14 of the 24 contract players. But those players can You can never throw it all away at the end of the season.”
“Every year you manage to get rid of four and then you slowly buy more, so that you don’t have a mediocre team, but a team just above mediocre. So you certainly won’t be playing for the title in the next three years.” .”
Van der Gijp assures that it has the ideal solution. “So you need a type of trainer… If you put everyone in the right place and you immediately give clear messages to everyone at Ajax, then you can have a great season. Then I think: make Ron Jan’s trainer. Take him, Don’t be complicated. Don’t be complicated.”
“He went from FC Twente to FC Utrecht and left the staff there as it was. He didn’t take anyone with him, only himself. What he did at PEC Zwolle, what he did at Twente and now at Utrecht… It’s very simple: put everyone in the right place and send a clear message so that the Sutalos of this world do their best. He will work for a team that is no better than Twente.”
“He is now 65 years old. Give him a two-year contract with an option for another year,” Van der Gijp advises. “You save a lot of money, because he has no assistants. Then you can start over as Ajax with a new trainer. Now you just need someone who can get the most out of a mediocre team. Ron Jans has been doing that for ten years. “
