René Lammers will compete in Spanish Formula 4 next year. The fifteen-year-old son of former Formula 1 driver Jan Lammers will drive for the Dutch team MP Motorsport, which is very complimentary of the Dutch talent.
Lammers junior is considered a great racing talent and has made an impression in karting in recent years. That aroused the interest of Ferrari, which invited the young Zandvoort resident two months ago to make his first meters in a Formula 4 car.
Lammers did that with verve. He won the so-called World Finals, but a contract with Ferrari did not happen. Lammers has now entered into a partnership with the Dutch MP Motorsport, which has been seeking his favors for some time.
“It was always our plan to collaborate with MP Motorsport,” Lammers said on the team’s website. “MP has a fantastic track record and always competes for the podium in all formula classes. So I am looking forward to making my debut in motorsport with MP Motorsport.”
MP Motorsport is enthusiastic about what Lammers has shown so far. “During tests at the Paul Ricard, MotorLand Aragón and Barcelona circuits, Lammers was among the top drivers and was the fastest rookie,” the team reports.

To the doorstep of Formula 1
Lammers’ future team boss Sander Dorsman is happy with the arrival of his compatriot. “René has proven to be a huge talent in karting, with a trophy cabinet that you take your hat off to,” he says. “He appears to effortlessly transfer that speed to the formula cars.”
The intention is for Lammers to eventually make the switch to Formula 1. MP Motorsport says it can bring the young Dutchman to the doorstep of the premier class of racing.
Formula 4 has proven to be a stepping stone to Formula 1 for several drivers. Lance Stroll, Lando Norris and Yuki Tsunoda became champions in this racing class. Mick Schumacher, Zhou Guanyu, Oscar Piastri and Logan Sargeant have already finished in the top three of Formula 4.
René Lammers is the son of Jan Lammers. The 67-year-old from Zandvoort drove four seasons in Formula 1 between 1979 and 1982 and made a short-lived comeback in 1992. Nowadays Lammers is senior sporting director of the Dutch Grand Prix.
