Mexico City. The former administrative director of Food Safety (Segalmex), René Gavira Segreste will face a new criminal process. The Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime (FEMDO) was linked to proceedings for its alleged responsibility in organized crime crimes with the purpose of committing operations with resources of illicit origin and embezzlement.
Gavira Segreste is currently facing three more criminal proceedings for diversion of public resources that were intended for the purchase of milk and basic grains, and authorized the purchase of stock bonds, for which he has been imprisoned since December 2023 in the North Prison.
The Attorney General’s Office of the Republic (FGR) announced that the former official was linked to the process by establishing that as legal representative of Diconsa, SA de CV (one of the companies that make up Segalmex), he allegedly authorized the budget sufficiency to hold a agreement with the company Carregín SA de CV, for the purchase of sugar, of which there is no evidence that it has been delivered to Diconsa.
According to the data provided, due to the nature of his position, René Gavira “had the obligation to monitor the operations and movements carried out by the Treasury Management; and his actions allowed the diversion of resources belonging to the Mexican State in the amount of 142 million 440 thousand 883 pesos for the benefit of said commercial entity.
In this context, elements of the Federal Ministerial Police (PFM), of the Criminal Investigation Agency (AIC), completed the arrest warrant for confinement against Gavira Segreste inside the North Men’s Preventive Prison.
The control judge determined to link him to the process and for this case, as in the two he was already facing, order that he remain in justified preventive detention and granted six months to the FGR to conclude the complementary investigation.
This person is linked to proceedings in three other diverse criminal cases (related to the Segalmex matter), in which the precautionary measure of preventive detention was also imposed.
In the new criminal process, Diconsa denounced that former public servants illegally granted and approved budget adequacy in favor of Servicios Integrales Carregín and made the payment of 142 million 440 thousand 883 pesos with which the parastatal company would receive 3 thousand 110 tons of sugar.
However, investigations by the Superior Audit of the Federation determined that the merchandise was never received in the Diconsa warehouses and no documentation was found to support said delivery.
For its part, FEMDO detected that the resources paid by Diconsa were channeled by Carregín to authorized people in its accounts and others who have no relationship with the company.
