In 1964, Castro was received as a Military Polytechnic Engineer after passing through the Military Polytechnic School. The following year he retired from the Army and arrived in Concepción, where he joined the Huachipato Steel Company.

There he remained for 40 years and held important positions, since He was a member of the board of CAP SA until 2005 when he retired.

It was not the only area where he was involved, since for many years he was linked to teaching. That is how between 1992 and 1994 he was director of the Masonic Educational Corporation of Concepción (Coemco), after which he participated as secretary of the board of directors until this year.

René Castro Lorca also He was director of the University of Concepción between 2006 and 2010, as well as president of the board of directors of the Concepción Minors and Students Corporation, Valentín Letelier, for six years.

Castro was also an active member of Freemasonry, where he stayed for more than five decades, passing through various lodges: first in Santiago and then in Concepción.
