Renault reveals the name of its new premium coupe SUV – RAFALE
Renault reveals the name of its future premium coupe SUV – RAFALE. The new model is an addition to the brand’s range of cars with E-Tech hybrid engines and is built on the CMF-CD platform. Following the Austral five-seater SUV and the Espace five-seater or seven-seater SUV, the new RAFALE is Renault’s next bright entry to conquer the D-segment.
The name was inspired by Renault’s famous past in equipping aircraft. To see Renault’s connection with aviation, you have to go back in time to the beginning of the 20th century. At the time, Renault was the first manufacturer of internal combustion engines for cars, trains and planes. In 1933, Renault took over another manufacturer – Caudron – and created Caudron-Renault. All the planes were named after a famous wind. Accordingly, the C460 single-seat racer designed to break records was renamed the RAFALE in 1934.
Renault reconnects with its history and uses the features of the legendary Caudron RAFALE in the new luxury car. Semantics points to the wind and gives you a sense of what the camouflaged silhouette hides, creating an immediate image of performance, daring, excitement and character.
The world premiere of the new Renault RAFALE will take place at the Paris Air Show in Le Bourget on June 18.
