Production of the Renault microcar Twizy will be discontinued in September. Twizy remained on the conveyor for 12 years, during which more than 33 thousand copies were sold worldwide.
The serial model of Renault Twizy was presented in 2011. It was a vehicle of only 2.30 m long and 1.20 m wide, which combined the characteristics of a car and a scooter. The Twizy offered space for two riders, who had to sit behind each other due to the narrow cabin.
A lockable 22-liter luggage compartment is located under the rear seat, and its volume can be increased to 55 liters by simply turning the rear seat housing.
In addition to the standard version with 13 kW (17 hp) and a maximum speed of 80 km/h, Renault also offers the Twizy 45. As an L6e category vehicle, it mobilizes 8 kW (10 hp), has a maximum speed of 45 km/h and can therefore be driven from the age of 15 with an AM driver’s license (in Germany) for mopeds with limited speed and light motor vehicles. In the city, the Twizy can travel 90 to 100 kilometers on a single battery charge.
In its more than 10-year career, the Renault Twizy experienced several modifications, for example, in 2013, the Twizy Cargo variant of the microtransporter was launched with a 156-liter cargo compartment built into the rear seat. The compact vehicle was also used in rescue and fire services, as a first aid provider or transporter of special equipment.
The concept developed by Renault Sport was interesting – thanks to front and rear fenders, a rear diffuser, racing tires and Formula 1 technologies, it was transformed from a slow city transport into a real racing bolide. Instead of the rear seat, engineers installed an F1 KERS system to recover kinetic energy, which provided an additional 60 kW (82 hp) in addition to the standard electric motor. The Twizy Renault Sport F1 accelerated from 0 to 100 km/h in about six seconds, with a top speed of 110 km/h.
