Renault Trafic Van E-Tech Electric: Benefits, Features, and Customization Options

Renault Trafic is a bestseller trusted by more than 2.4 million professionals since 1980.

Along with the new Renault Kangoo Van E-Tech electric and Master E-Tech electric, the model’s pedigree now includes a version of the Trafic, which completes Renault’s all-electric light commercial vehicle line.

All the benefits of the Trafic in a fully electric format

The new version of the Trafic follows in the footsteps of all other Renault electric light commercial vehicles – it does not lose any of the advantages of the internal combustion models and at the same time provides high performance, as well as a wide range of options and individual customization options.

The Renault Trafic Van E-Tech electric has inherited all the advantages that have ensured the great success of this model for the last forty years, making it an icon in its segment and ranking among the three best-selling light commercial vehicles in Europe. Similar trends can also be observed in the Latvian light commercial vehicle market, where Renault has been in the leading positions for years, and with the new electric Trafic entering the market, professionals will have even more opportunities to choose the most suitable cargo van for their work.

The Trafic Van E-Tech electric remains extremely versatile, offering more bodywork variations and more cargo space customization options than other cargo vans on the market today:

two lengths (5.08 meters and 5.48 meters) and two heights (1.967 meters and 2.498 meters); cargo space volume (for cargo van) from 5.8 cubic meters to 8.9 cubic meters; the possibility of transporting objects up to 4.15 meters long (in the extended L2 version with a hatch in the bulkhead); Towing capacity of up to 920 kg and carrying capacity of 1.1 tons; available in an easily rebuildable version with a completely flat floor; excellent modularity and almost endless possibilities for individual customization, thanks to a network of more than 359 Renault-approved coachbuilders.

Storage spaces with a total capacity of 88 liters are available in the cabin for storing personal belongings (19.7 liters in the console, 14.6 liters in the doors, 54 liters in the seat).

In some equipment versions, the glove compartment is actually an Easylife drawer with a volume of 6.6 liters and an ingenious opening system, which is particularly handy for the driver.

The Trafic Van was the very first light commercial vehicle with a “mobile office”. By folding the backrest of the middle seat, it turns into a desk (with a slot for keeping a notepad) or a table for meals. Thanks to the Renault Trafic Van, this ingenious piece of equipment has now become a must-have for dealers.

The lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 52 kWh allows the new Trafic Van E-Tech electric to travel up to 297 km (WLTP) between charges. It is usually fully sufficient for a full working day, and also provides the lowest costs for both the owner and the user.

The batteries have a warranty of 8 years or 160,000 km. If the battery capacity falls below 70% of the nominal level during the warranty period, it is replaced free of charge.

The new Trafic Van E-Tech electric is equipped with a 90 kW (122 hp) electric motor with 245 Nm of instantly available torque, so driving is smooth and relaxing in all conditions. If necessary, the driver can turn on the Eco driving mode, which limits the car’s power and ensures optimal range, while the maximum speed of the Trafic Van E-Tech electric “long-distance” version is limited to 90 km/h, and such a car can travel up to 322 km.

The traditional hydraulic brake system includes ARBS (Adaptive Regenerative Brake System) which allows for maximum energy recovery.

Three different chargers are available for the new Trafic Van E-Tech electric:

single-phase 7 kW AC charger compatible with all types of household sockets; 22 kW fast AC charger for public charging stations, providing an additional 50 km range (WLTP) in less than 25 minutes; A 50 kW fast DC charger coming next year.

Finally, the MyRenault smartphone app or the Renault Easy Link multimedia system (standard on all versions) in the new Trafic Van E-Tech electric provides several model-specific services, including:

scheduled battery charging and remote battery status monitoring; scheduled cabin heating; finding charging points on your route; by creating a list of destinations to reach with the remaining battery charge.

L2 (H1 and H2 Van, FloorCab and CrewCab) orders will start in October this year, with deliveries starting in November. L1 (H1 Van and CrewCab) orders will start in November and deliveries will start in December.

Made in France – at the Sadouville factory

The decision to manufacture Renault Trafic in Sandouville was made in 2010. Renault invested 230 million euros in the transformation and modernization of this plant, and now it is possible to produce a light commercial vehicle in 600 different variations.

Production began in 2014, and with factory workers working in two shifts, almost 600 new Renault Trafic vans leave Saduvil every day – or one Trafic every 80. About 75% of the cars produced at this factory are exported.

Saduvila is still a very modern factory and is preparing for the launch of the Trafic E-Tech 100% electric.

The 1,677 employees at the Saduvila plant also produce cars for the Nissan brand (Primastar) and Renault Trucks heavy vehicles (Traffic Red Edition) and take on various challenges related to the transition to the use of other forms of energy and decarbonization (in February 2023, the plant’s energy management system obtained the ISO 50001 certificate) , digitization of processes and innovations.

The engine and chargers of the new Trafic Van E-Tech electric are made at the Renault factory in Cléon, Normandy, the battery is assembled in Flint, while the car is electrified at Gretz-Armainvilliers.
