French Renault managed to sell 354.5 thousand cars in the first quarter of the year, which is 9% more than last year (both figures do not take into account sales in Russia). The brand’s share in the European market increased by 0.2% over the year, to 6.2%, according to press release companies.
For the French manufacturer, which has reported falling revenue for four years in a row, this result is an absolute success. And as noted by Renault CEO Fabrice Camboliv, the positive dynamics of sales continues in April.
Sales of electric and hybrid cars grew by 24% in the first quarter and reached 64,000. Their share of Renault’s total sales is already 38%.
Meanwhile, Mr. Kamboliv noted during a press conference to present the company’s results that the French manufacturer is worried about Tesla’s recent price cuts for its electric vehicles.
The American company last Friday, April 14, reduced the price tags for its products in Europe, Israel and Singapore. Now the Tesla Model 3 in France costs the same as the electric Renault Megane E – €42,000. The French company sold 3,570 Megane E electric vehicles in France in the first quarter. Tesla Model 3 sales amounted to 3.16 thousand, but the more popular model of the American manufacturer is Model Y. Its sales in the country reached 9.36 thousand.
“Obviously, (Tesla price cuts.— “uh”) is a challenge… We will analyze country by country, market by market, to understand what level of competitiveness we need to stay in the game,” said Mr. Kamboliv.
