What Renault says
Renault Group is considering the creation of two specialized activity poles.
- An entity dedicated to the development, production and sale of electric vehicles.
- An entity dedicated to the development and production of new generation E-TECH thermal and hybrid engines and gearboxes.
As part of the “Renaulution” plan, Renault Group announced on February 18, 2022, that it is studying a new strategy on how to organize its activities and technologies in the field of electric and thermal vehicles in order to increase their efficiency and commercial performance. The new strategy aims to adapt each technology, taking into account the strengths and expertise of the group in different markets and within the Alliance.
Renault Group has great ambitions in the electrical field. Thus, by 2030, the Renault brand aims to sell only 100% electric cars on the European market. In order to accelerate this transition and to meet the demands of the fast-growing market, the group is considering setting up an entity dedicated to Electric Vehicles and Software in France. Renault Group has made a strategic decision to establish the production of the main components of electric mobility in France, which illustrates its desire to develop high-tech activities in markets with high growth potential and to position itself as a leader in vehicles. in Europe.
The scope considered includes electrical and software activities and technologies throughout the value chain: engineering (part of Technocentre, Renault Software Lab, Lardy test center and other objectives in the Île-de-France region), industry (Electricity, Cléon plant) as well as support functions related to these activities.
The electric vehicle entity could have more than 10,000 employees by 2023.
This autonomous entity will adopt a business model adapted to the specifics of the electric vehicle market and will be able to conclude partnerships in the field of new technologies or services.
In parallel, the Renault Group is considering setting up a new entity to bring together its activities outside France in the field of thermal and hybrid engines and transmissions. Taking into account the capacity to innovate and the developments towards reducing emissions for this type of vehicle,
Renault Group is convinced that hybrid and plug-in hybrid thermal vehicles benefit from important long-term prospects both in Europe and in international markets and that technologies such as E-TECH are a real asset for sales growth. Bringing together the activities and technologies related to thermal and hybrid engines and transmissions, Renault Group aims to highlight the potential of its technologies, including low-emission fuels such as LPG, to create a world leader in the mechanical sector in the automotive industry. .
The scope covered includes the manufacture of thermal and hybrid engines and transmissions – excluding chassis production – under:
- Mechanical Plants: Motores (Spain), Sevilla (Spain), Cacia (Portugal), Bursa (Turkey), Mioveni (Romania), Curitiba (Brazil), CorMecanica (Chile), PFA (Argentina)
- Engineering and R&D: RTS (Spain), RTR (Romania and Turkey), RTA (Brazil)
- Support functions related to these activities.
This entity will build on the experience and skills of around 10,000 employees – outside France – by 2023.
In order to be a global, global and competitive leader for the benefit of the Renault Group, the partners of the Alliance and possibly other manufacturers and customers, this entity will be able to develop industrial and technological partnerships.
Consultations with employee representative courts on these projects are taking place in the countries involved and the subsequent stages of these strategy studies will involve social dialogue.
Renault Group is accelerating the implementation of the strategic plan “Renaulution” and will present, in the autumn of 2022, at a Capital Market Day event, the progress of these projects.
