A “center of excellence” in the North
The merger of the Douai and Maubeuge sites in the North is planned to create a center of excellence for electric and light commercial vehicles. The production of Kangoo electric utilities should however be transferred to Douai, which will inherit a new platform.
This factory, which produces the Espace, Scenic and Talisman models, currently uses less than a quarter of its capacity.
Adjustment of production abroad
Internationally, Renault announces the “suspension of plans to increase capacity planned in Morocco and Romania”.
He studies “the adaptation of production capacities in Russia and the rationalization of the manufacture of gearboxes in the world”. Mechanical activities in South Korea and the manufacture of gearboxes in Turkey are expected to be affected.
2.15 billion euros in savings
Implementing the plan will cost 1.2 billion euros, saving about 2.15 billion annually on its fixed costs.
All the measures on the industrial tool should allow the group to generate 650 million euros in savings, to which are added 800 million euros in cost reduction in engineering, with “the optimization of the ‘use of R&D centers abroad and subcontracting “.
Savings of 700 million euros are also foreseen in general expenses, marketing and other support functions.
Global production capacities should therefore decrease, from 4 million vehicles currently to around 3.3 million, on a two-shift basis (which corresponds to higher actual production in the case of a third shift).
