Luca de Meo switched to the Renault brand at the beginning of this year and has now revealed his plans, which mainly concern the Alpine brand. The Alpine that got in a few months ago into speculation due to possible extinction. The big plans prove that Renault decided the opposite.

So what can fans look forward to? First of all, it’s a Formula 1 team – but not a new one. From next season, the Renault F1 will simply be called the Alpine F1; so it’s more of a marketing change, but important.

More interesting news is the possibility that sharp renaults would be named Alpine, as de Meo told the British magazine AutoExpress. “As with the Cupra, I will find a point of contact between the Alpine brand and some Renault models,” he said. “We have to be believable, so it won’t happen at Kangoo or Espace – I’ll do it at cars that match the brand’s position,” he added.

De Meo is building Alpine as a new unit, which according to the British should be led by the current head of the Renault F1 team Cyril Abiteboul. This unit will bring together both the Formula 1 team and the existing Renaultsport division – hence the words about the Alpine brand for RS Renault – and the historic elements of Alpine.

“What I’ve seen is the opportunity to combine these things and create something I call ‘little Ferrari’ – the F1 team at the center of the brand, which will be present in motorsport as well as in development, production and distribution,” he explains. This could mean that in addition to the sharp Renault, the Alpine will bear the name of another sports car, a possible successor to the current A110, but we are already speculating.

One of the missions that the Alpine brand could receive is, according to other de Meo, “to make the experience of driving an electric car emotional and exciting”. So we will probably see an electric car as well.
