Renault denies rumors of break with Nissan

The French car maker Renault denies rumors of a termination of the cooperation with Nissan, according to a media report. The alliance between Renault and its Japanese partner Nissan Motor is “solid, robust, anything but dead,” said Renault chairman Jean-Philippe Senard, the Belgian newspaper “L’Echo” (Tuesday edition).

A newspaper report yesterday about a possible end of the cooperation with the Japanese automaker weighed on Renault’s shares. At the start of the week, they fell four percent to a six-year low of EUR 40.16.

The Financial Times reported that Nissan was pushing on secret plans to break up the alliance. Among other things, it is about ending the cooperation in development and production, and also considering changes in the Nissan Supervisory Board. Nissan has accelerated this planning since ex-boss Carlos Ghosn’s flight from Japan in late December, it said.
