Renault: Choisy-le-Roi employees on strike, employment maintained at Maubeuge

Renault employees at the Choisy-le-Roi site (Val-de-Marne) were on strike Tuesday at the call of the local intersyndicale (FO, CFDT, CGT, CFE-CGC) to protest against the announced closure of their site.

“More than 200 employees”, out of the 262 on the site in total, “mobilized to save their jobs”, had been gathered for 6 hours in front of the factory, specialized in the renovation and reconditioning of engines and gearboxes, said Brahim Hachouche (FO). “The factory is at a standstill. We are waiting for someone from the central management to explain to us; we have the support of the town hall,” he added, adding that the strike was “renewable”.

The Choisy site is the only one of the 14 that the industrial group has in France, whose final closure has been announced at this stage by 2022 as part of the savings plan which plans to cut 4,600 jobs in three years in France, i.e. almost 10% of the group’s workforce in France. Its activity must be transferred to the Flins site (Yvelines).

In Maubeuge, job retention “beyond 2023”

On the Maubeuge side, activity and employment on the MCA site, a Renault subsidiary, will be maintained “beyond 2023”, said Xavier Bertrand, president of Hauts-de-France on Tuesday, after of a meeting in Bercy in the presence in particular of Bruno Le Maire, Renault management and unions.

“The Minister (of the Economy) understood everyone’s determination and clearly heard the message: no closure of MCA and MCA does not become an empty shell,” said Xavier Bertrand, who remains vigilant on the terms of engagement of the car manufacturer.

The president of the Renault group, Jean-Dominique Sénard, assured Sunday that he had “no intention” to close the Maubeuge site.
