Renault brings E-Tech models to Latin America

Renault is planning an electric offensive in Latin America. From 2023 the French manufacturer wants to offer the electric models Megane E-Tech Electric, Kangoo E-Tech Electric and Master E-Tech Electric in Brazil, Argentina, Colombia and Mexico. In addition, the Kwid E-Tech Electric will be launched in other countries in Central and South America.

Specifically, Renault wants to introduce the electric Megane and Kangoo in Brazil starting from the first half of 2023 and also in Argentina, Colombia and Mexico from the second half of the year. The new Elektro-Master is expected to be available in Brazil, Colombia and Mexico starting in the first half of next year. Argentina is not mentioned here.

The French are planning an even larger launch in Central and South America for the small electric car Kwid E-Tech Electric, known in this country as Dacia Spring Electric: the electric vehicle will be sold in Colombia, Mexico, Argentina, Chile and Uruguay by the first half of the year, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Curaçao, Panama, Ecuador, Peru, Paraguay and the Dominican Republic. The market launch in Brazil took place this year. Renault reports that the first deliveries to the country on the Sugar Loaf took place in August.

For the Brazilian launch of the Kwid E-Tech Electric, the manufacturer specifies that after a presentation program in April 2022, the first batch of 750 vehicles was completely sold out. Mobility brand Renault Mobilize has also announced an agreement with passenger transport provider Zarp Localiza to offer an additional 200 Kwid E-Tech Electric to Uber drivers in Sao Paulo. Drivers should be able to benefit from various vehicle-related services, including access to charging stations via the Mobilize charging app.

Both electric cars and light commercial vehicles operate under the E-Tech label. In Europe, the E-Tech range accounted for 36% of vehicle sales in the first half of 2022, according to Renault. More than 30,000 Megane E-Tech Electric have been ordered in Europe. Although selling electric cars in Latin America is still not a priority for many manufacturers, Renault is preparing to serve this still small market at an early stage. According to its own statements, the French carmaker in Brazil maintains “the largest sales network of electric vehicles in the country”.

“The electric vehicle markets are booming and Renault is well positioned to serve its customers with products that meet their needs,” said Fabrice Cambolive, Chief Operating Officer of the Renault brand. “Our range of E-Tech electric vehicles responds to our customers’ desire for vehicles with low operating costs and sustainable mobility.”

Renault unveiled the compact Megane E-Tech Electric in autumn 2021. As the first Stromer on Renault’s CMF-EV platform, it marks the beginning of a new generation of vehicles for the French. As a volume model, it is bound to appeal to a wide range of customers. In June of this year, the manufacturer also presented the new generation of its classic electric commercial vehicles: with the Kangoo Rapid E-Tech Electric, comes the second generation of the Renault compact battery-powered transporter. The engineers also revised the largest Elektro-Master in the class up to 3.5 tonnes in total weight.
