The French car company Renault has appointed ex-seat managing director Luca de Meo to the top of the group. The Renault Board of Directors appointed the Italian chief executive on Tuesday. The 52-year-old will take up his new post on July 1. Vice President of the Board of Directors is to be Clotilde Delbos, the previous Chief Financial Officer at the same date, who Renault has been acting as temporary manager since October.

Italian De Meo is said to lead Renault out of the crisis

With the help of the multilingual industry expert De Meo, Renault wants to finally leave the era of the former CEO Carlos Ghosn behind. The board of directors had replaced Thierry Bolloré as chief executive in October, who was formerly Ghosn’s deputy.

Because of the contractual relationship with the Volkswagen Group, to which Seat belongs, De Meo cannot take up his new post until July. He is to head Renault together with the former Michelin boss Jean-Dominique Senard, who has been the head of the board of directors since last year. The Spanish car brand Seat had reestablished De Meo in recent years. Seat posted a sales record last year.

Renault’s stock has lost about half of its value in Japan since Ghosn’s arrest in late 2018. Shortly before the turn of the year, Ghosn had left Japan and is now in Lebanon. In Japan, the ex-manager faces a lawsuit, among other things, on charges of misusing company capital and transferring private losses to Nissan.
