“Renault” and “Nissan” councils approve the reorganization of the partnership between the two companies

Last week, it was announced that Renault would reduce its stake in Nissan from 43.4% to 15%, bringing it in line with Nissan’s stake in the French automaker.

At the same time, “Nissan” will acquire up to 15% of Renault’s new electric car production company “Ampere”. The two companies have also agreed on joint ventures in Latin America, India and Europe.

With this agreement, the two companies state that they are “opening a new chapter in their partnership”.

“Renault’s” board approved this change on Sunday, and “Nissan’s” board – on Monday.

The alliance between “Renault” and “Nissan” began in 1999, when the French car manufacturer saved “Nissan” from bankruptcy.

In 2016, Japan’s “Mitsubishi Motors” joined this alliance, when “Nissan” acquired 34% of this company’s shares.

However, the operation of the alliance was destabilized by the arrest of the then head of Nissan, Carlos Ghosn, in 2018. Ghosn claimed that the purpose of the accusations brought against him was to prevent his efforts to bring Renault and Nissan closer together.
