The name of Logan Mailloux will certainly never be unanimous among CH supporters. The one who was selected, to everyone’s surprise by Marc Bergevin in the 2021 draft, will have a lot to prove if he wants to have a chance with the club, and we are not talking here on the ice.
Even Gary Bettman recently weighed in on this story when he mentioned the league was still considering its future. The odds of the NHL giving him a second chance, however, seem high.
“We will assess the file if and when the Canadiens decide to bring it to the NHL level. I believe that depending on the circumstances and the person, it is possible to have the right to a second chance. It’s case by case. But basically, we haven’t tackled this file yet. – Gary Bettman
Judging only by his game on the ice, it seems that Mailloux is developing very, very well. His offensive game as well as his defensive and physical play are excellent in the OHL. He currently has 31 points (13 goals and 18 assists) in 35 games with the London Knights this season.
His performances have made the CH very happy with him, as Renaud Lavoie recently mentioned in an appearance on the TVA Sports program JiC.
“He is dominating right now and the reports that the Canadiens leaders have of him are very, very good. – Renaud Lavoie
This is great news!
Mailloux, who spent his summer in Montreal, rubbed shoulders with several current CH players, including the captain Nick Suzuki. He seems to have been accepted by the group, which is a very good sign for him.
Everything therefore leans for Bettman to agree to integrate Mailloux into the league next season.
If he is absolute and he knows a good camp, he could, he who will be 20 years old next April, imitate Kaiden Guhle and carve out a position with the big club. It will be difficult, however, because, if nothing changes, there will be congestion next fall on the club’s blue line when Kaiden Guhle, Jordan Harris, Arber XhekajMike Matheson, David Savard and maybe even Justin Barron will all be in the running.
In short, Lavoie reports that the news is excellent concerning Mailloux and there would be real chances that he will imitate Kaiden Guhle and break through the 2023 alignment.
Mailloux will however also be able to play with the Rocket in the AHL next season in the event of a cut by the CH. He will thus be able to develop in professional hockey and benefit from recalls with the big club when the latter is afflicted with injuries.
