Renato Sanches and Chukwuemeka unsustainable, but a midfielder serves: Milan’s options

Yesterday Milan made the purchase of Charles De Ketelaere official, but had to consciously say – and obviously, given the final prices – to the tracks Renato Sanches (one step away from PSG) and to Carney Chukwuemeka, who moved to Chelsea for 24 millions of euros less than one year from the expiry date.

Long nuanced negotiation

Milan had already spotted Renato Sanches a year ago, approaching him with a concrete offer in the last January market, without, however, being able to close the purchase due to the lack of agreement on the engagement; after the end of the championship, the negotiations seemed to be able to close in favor of the Rossoneri, with Lille and the player willing to accept the Rossoneri offers. The inclusion of the mentors Galtier and Campos from PSG, however, changed the cards: 20 million euros at Lille, 6 wages for the player per deal. Figures, both for the 1997 Portuguese and for the 2004 English class, are unsustainable.

The new options

Now Milan will have to explore the new options for their midfield; Kessie’s farewell, in fact, must be filled not so much technically (Pioli is studying tactical alternatives with high-quality attacking midfielders), but at the level of presence, given the 40 fixed matches that the Ivorian guaranteed every year. Some players have been proposed to Milan, but have not found the favor of Maldini and Massara; among the welcome profiles, there is that of Seko Fofana of Lens, 27-year-old Ivorian former Udinese, and Pape Sarr, 19-year-old Tottenham midfielder.
