Renap attends during special hours for elections

Title: RENAP Extends Hours for Guatemalans to Process Personal Identification Documents (DPI) Ahead of General Elections 2023

Date: June 19, 2023

In a bid to facilitate the electoral process for the upcoming General Elections 2023, the National Register of persons (RENAP) in Guatemala has announced extended hours for the processing and collection of personal identification documents (DPI). From today until Saturday, June 24, Guatemalans will have the opportunity to attend various authorized centers during the specified hours.

Under the protocol for attention in the election phase, RENAP aims to ensure that citizens have ample time to process or collect their DPIs. This initiative comes as Guatemala heads towards elections marked by irregularities, emphasizing the importance of a smooth and efficient electoral process.

According to RENAP, the following offices will serve the public during extended hours:

1. Renap headquarters (calzada Roosevelt 13-46, zone 7 of the capital)
2. Printing center located in Quetzaltenango
3. Printing center located in Río Hondo, Zacapa

From June 19 to 24, 2023, these centers will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Additionally, all Renap offices nationwide will operate from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. during the same period.

On June 25, General Election Day, the aforementioned centers will be open from 5:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. to cater to any last-minute DPI requirements.

The extended hours aim to provide essential services to citizens, including the issuance of certifications, data capture for DPI processing, and the delivery of DPIs and registry inscriptions. Notably, RENAP has implemented a streamlined process for individuals who require immediate replacement, theft, loss, destruction, or deterioration of their DPI. Such cases will be prioritized, and the DPI will be delivered within 45 minutes. The Renap headquarters on Roosevelt road, zone 7, as well as the Printing centers in Quetzaltenango and Río Hondo, Zacapa, will handle these urgent requests.

It is important to note that the DPI will only be delivered to the document holder to ensure the protection of identity and the safety of Guatemalans.

RENAP encourages all eligible individuals to take advantage of the extended hours and visit the authorized centers to process or collect their DPIs. By doing so, citizens can contribute to a smooth and efficient electoral process for General Elections 2023.
