Thiruvananthapuram Nedumbassery Airport is named K. Shashi Tharoor MP wants to name Karunakaran International Airport. Nedumbassery airport was made a reality by K. Karunakaran. Speaking at the inauguration of the Karunakaran Center building construction fund collection held at the KPCC headquarters, Tharoor said that without his efforts, the Nedumbassery airport would never have happened.
“80 percent of the country’s airports are named after individuals. The name of the airport is K. Do not hesitate to call Karunakaran International Airport. Karunakaran was the person who welcomed me with open arms when I entered politics for the first time. Every month when he came to Thiruvananthapuram, he would invite me to his house for dinner or to talk. Many advices were given. He also inaugurated my first convention. The current state rulers are opposed to the airport. They are now enjoying themselves by traveling in it” – said Shashi Tharoor.
