Rena Wakama, head coach of the Nigerian women’s basketball team D’Tigress, has won the award for best coach of the 2024 Paris Olympic Women’s Basketball Tournament.
Wakama was named winners of various categories in both the men’s and women’s categories following the conclusion of the Paris 2024 basketball tournament on Sunday, August 11.

D’Tigress’ dynamic coach led the team to outstanding victories against Australia and Canada in Group B matches during the recently concluded basketball tournament of this international multi-sport event.
Wakama’s exceptional leadership emboldened the team and helped them qualify from the group stage and become the first African basketball team (men or women) to reach the quarterfinals. They were defeated by eventual champions, the United States.
This award was given to Wakama based on her experience as a trainer and is considered a testament to her passion and tireless dedication to her job.
