Remuneration wall in Rennes

[TW : féminicide, infanticide, transphobie, suicide]

147 feminicides in 2022: in Rennes, the Colleureuses pay tribute to the victims and their entourage

More than one feminicide is committed every three days in France (source : Noustoutes.org). Each victim is one victim too many. In addition to being a disgrace, the government’s inaction is criminal in the face of this observation.

In order to commemorate these feminicides and to alert on the urgency of a political reaction, the collective of the Colleureuses de Rennes created on the night of January 20 a fresco bringing together all the victims. Our collages are visible under the Bagoul bridge, located near the Place des Lices. The surnames and first names of the female victims do not appear on the fresco, out of respect for their family and loved ones. However, we wanted to show their age as well as the city in which they were murdered, to show that this violence spares no generation and no place. We are all concerned

The killers are between 14 and 85 years old, they were husbands, fathers, companions or sons. Their names are Jean-Pierre, Hervé, Arnaud, Jordan, Philippe… They are men, and these men put an end to the lives of women, simply because they were women.

Patriarchal violence strikes everywhere and does not only target women. Even if they do not appear in our fresco, all our thoughts are also with other victims of this violence. Among them, the 65 children who were killed this year (source: “Infanticides in France”) and trans people who took their own lives. Every suicide of a trans person is murder in disguise. Patriarchy kills.

How many more walls will it take to honor our dead? ? We don’t want to count them anymore. Refusing to put the necessary means to prevent these crimes is nothing but complicity on the part of the government.

The next victims are still alive, let’s listen to them.
