According to the doctor, when there is a lot of cortisol, the stress hormone, the body accumulates fat stores in the middle part of the body, which is especially vulnerable. This is a survival strategy that the human body has retained from the old days, the expert explained.
She recommended that those who want to lose weight reduce their stress levels. “Give the process of losing weight time and, above all, calm down mentally – then belly fat will no longer have a chance,” the doctor said.
She warned that fat stores don’t melt away easily. If you lose weight too quickly, you can lose muscle mass. Therefore, it is more useful to lose no more than one to three percent of body weight per week. The doctor also advised to include high-fiber foods, lean protein and healthy fats in the diet, and to exclude fried and highly processed foods, which often contain hidden sugar and other unhealthy substances.
