Removes multiple Flex tickets before possible SAS strike

Norwegian is removing the possibility of buying so-called “Flex” tickets to several destinations in Southern Europe from Friday night. The reason is Thursday’s news about mediation and possible SAS strike before the joint holiday.

– We are affected by the uncertainty surrounding SAS’s traffic program. In particular, we notice that sales of our most flexible tickets are rising sharply. We therefore now choose to remove this ticket category at some destinations – including in France, Spain and Croatia from 23 June to 10 July, senior communications consultant Eline Hyggen Skari tells TV 2.

With the Flex tickets to Norwegian, you can usually be flexible and change your trip up to 30 minutes before departure.

On previous occasions, SAS travelers who feared a strike had ordered Flex tickets from Norwegian, but canceled the ticket at the moment the strike was averted.

This has resulted in empty seats, lost sales and disappointed customers, who could be accommodated on a possible flight.

– We take an active grip on this because we want those who will actually travel with us to do so, and to avoid flying with empty seats this summer when demand is as high as it is in the coming months.

– The desire to travel is back, and if you are going to fly this summer, we recommend not waiting too long to buy a plane ticket with us.

TV 2 has also been in contact with the airline Flyr, which has not yet decided whether they want to do the same.

– We have the capacity we have. Our advice is that it is wise to be out early to order tickets, says communications director Anita Svanes in Flyr to TV 2.

The SAS pilots’ union submitted a resignation on Thursday. Thus, there is a move towards mediation and a possible strike from 29 June.

The company is mainly owned by the Swedish and Danish states. On Friday morning came the news that Denmark is ready to help crisis-stricken SAS. Sweden, for its part, do not wish to spit more money into SAS.
