The requirements for infection and entry quarantine are eased. Now many close contacts can drop more than daily tests.

The current requirement for quarantine in close contact with the infected and entry into the country will be discontinued, the Ministry of Health and Care Services (HOD) announced on Monday.
– The infection quarantine for close contacts who are not household members or similarly close has already been terminated. From 26 January, the infection quarantine for household members and similar relatives will be possible to replace with daily testing, says Minister of Health Ingvild Kjerkol (Labor Party) in a press release.
The 10-day infection quarantine can be replaced with daily testing for household members and similar relatives. The regulation change applies from midnight, night to 26 January.
–– Very many are now in quarantine. The infection situation has led to a critical need to make adjustments. It is urgent to switch to a test regime as a replacement for the quarantine, says Kjerkol.
Here are the new test rules:
- Household members and similar relatives must undergo daily testing for five days.
- Household members and similar relatives who cannot keep their distance from the infected person during the isolation period can replace the quarantine infection with daily testing for 11 days (6 days during the infected person’s isolation period + 5 days after this). This also applies to children.
- In addition to the test regimen, it is recommended to wear a face mask indoors in a public place and to avoid large gatherings and events for 10 days.
- Monitor for any symptoms during the entire period. In case of symptoms, you should stay at home and get tested.
Removes entry requirements
These rules replace the requirement for infection quarantine. In addition, the Ministry of Health states that the rules on quarantine upon entry will be removed. These are removed.
These are the requirements that apply when entering today:
- Persons who arrive in Norway from an area with a quarantine obligation, and cannot document that they have been fully vaccinated or have undergone covid-19 with a valid corona certificate, in the entry quarantine.
- The entry quarantine of 10 days can still be terminated with a negative test taken no earlier than three days after arrival.
FHI now points out that travelers “without a corona certificate” make up 7 per cent of the registered travelers, and 4 per cent of cases of infection. In FHI’s assessment, the measure thus has little significance for the development of the epidemic or for hospital capacity.
They therefore do not consider that entry quarantine is necessary in the current situation. The requirements expire from midnight, night to Wednesday 26 January.

– I agree with FHI that the proportion of infected among immigrants without a corona certificate is so small related to the infection situation we have in Norway now, that the time has come to change the requirement for entry quarantine, says Minister of Health and Care Services Ingvild Kjerkol in a press release.
Discontinuation of entry quarantine will contribute to a faster opening of society, with easier entry. This can have positive socio-economic consequences for the business community in general and the tourism industry in particular, she continues.
The Ministry of Health states that travelers still have to test and register when entering the country. Those who can not document that they have been fully vaccinated must still submit a certificate of negative coronation test.
The entry quarantine can be reintroduced if the infection situation should change or there should be a new virus variant that requires stricter measures, the ministry states in the press release. They will present a new overall assessment of all entry requirements in early February.
