Remove the background of a picture in Office

  1. Select the image you want to remove the background from.

  2. On the toolbar, select image format > remove background o Format > remove background.

    Si no ve remove background, make sure you have selected an image. You may need to double-click the image to select it and open the tab image format.

  3. The default background area will be displayed in magenta to mark it for deletion, while the foreground will retain its natural color.

  4. If the default area is not correct, go to Background Removal > tools image and follow one or both procedures:

    • If the parts of the image you want to keep are magenta (marked for deletion), select Mark areas to keep and use the drawing pen freely Pencil used to draw tables to mark the areas of the image you want to keep.

    • To remove more parts of the image, select Mark areas to remove and use the Pencil used to draw tables drawing pencil to mark those areas.

      Background removal options allow you to mark specific areas of an image to keep or remove.

  5. When you’re done, select keep changes o Discard all changes.

    To save the image to a separate file for later use, right-click the image and select Save as image.

You can apply an artistic effect or add image effects to the remaining image after removing the background.

Another option to remove the background

If the image is not stored in an Office file, you can use a similar process with Windows Paint 3D. For more info, see Remove a photo background with Paint 3D.

  1. Select the image you want to remove the background from.

  2. In Image toolsin the tab Format in the group Adjust select remove background.

  3. Click one of the marquee line handles, and then drag the line so that it contains the part of the image you want to keep and excludes most of the areas you want to remove.

    Sometimes you can get the result you want without any extra work by experimenting with the position and size of the marquee lines.

    Suggestion: To undo the marked areas, select remove brand and then select the line.

  4. If the default area is not correct, go to Background Removal > tools image and follow one or both procedures:

    • Select Mark areas to keep and use the Pencil used to draw tables of the drawing pen to mark the areas of the image that you want to keep.

    • Select Mark areas to remove and use the Pencil used to draw tables drawing pencil to mark the areas you want to remove.

  5. When you’re done, select keep changes o Discard all changes.

    To save the image to a separate file for later use, right-click the image and select Save as image.

You can apply an artistic effect or add image effects to the remaining image after removing the background.
