NEW JERSEY – Remote classes in Newark, NJ, have been extended through January 25, 2021, as announced by city officials.
Newark School Superintendent Roger Leon said the decision to continue classes online was not an easy one, but was made because their priority is the health and well-being of students and staff.
At first, remote classes had been extended until mid-November.
The city’s back-to-school plan would require employees and teachers to be tested for COVID-19 two weeks prior to admission.
“The teachers will start before the students, on January 19, and two weeks before their re-entry they will have to take the COVID-19 test, everyone, including the employees,” said León. In addition, he told Telemundo 47 that the plan could always change depending on how the pandemic situation continues.
The Newark Board of Education asks parents of students to consult the school district websites for updates.
