Authorities of the three orders of government made the decision to intensify the campaigns of vaccination against Covid-19 the whole month of April this to be able to conclude with the application of the reinforcement of the vaccine in the adult population.
Despite the efforts, unfortunately many states reported remnants in their batches of vaccines, in the specific case of Baja California Sur (BCS) the delegate of Programs for the Development of Baja California Sur, Yassen Weichselbaum, commented that in the entity there were pending to apply 11 thousand doses.
Derived from this situation, many biologicals ran the risk of expiring, given this the Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks (Cofepris), explained that batches of vaccines can still be supplied to the population, without this risk of suffering any adverse effect.
“However, many states are left with remnants of vaccines, in the case of Baja California Sur we are left with a remnant as of Saturday, which is the day that this intense day of 11,000 doses closed. Fortunately, because it was a significant volume of vaccine that was at risk of expiration, our colleague, Lieutenant Jessica, who is the roadrunner liaison, explained to us that Cofepris carried out a job of reviewing the batches of these vaccines.”
The 11 thousand vaccines that do not present expiration riskwill be applied in these first 13 days of May, so the vaccination campaigns will continue at the different points installed both in the Health Centers, clinics of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) and in the clinics of the Institute of Security and Social Services for State Workers (ISSSTE). The schedules and vaccination centers will be published again through the dependency’s social networks.
“The same Saturday we received the information that for the lot we had in Baja California Sur; because not all batches have the same expiration date, we can apply these 11,000 vaccines until May 13. For this reason, in the case of Baja California Sur, we will continue attending to the elderly, in vaccination centers that we had previously informed the population of: Health Centers, IMSS clinics and ISSSTE clinics.”
The month of April was not very fruitful for the health units, only 1% progress was made in the people who are pending to apply their reinforcement of the Covid-19 vaccine. The delegate highlighted that the 30’s continue to be the age range where the greatest delay is counted in terms of application of the second dose and the booster dose.
“We are reaching 66% of people who received a booster, third dose, there are 300,000 South Californians throughout the state. We have 522,000 South Californians with a first dose, which is 96.5%, and with complete schemes we have already advanced one point; We are reaching 84% of South Californians who have completed their full vaccination schedule. The decade of the 30’s is where we have the greatest lag of second and third doses. The call continues, we continue to insist on this segment of 30 to 39 years old.”
During these days it will continue applying the vaccines in first, second and third doses to the entire population that requires it. At the end of this campaign, it is expected to start applying the vaccine to 12-year-old children without comorbidities.
