Developers Gunfire Games are bringing the sequel to their 2019 event Remnant: From the Ashes, and it looks like they’ve hit the nail on the head once again. The perfect mix of action, soulslike elements and puzzles is an unexpectedly catchy affair, enhanced by a whole constellation of distinct elements. One of them is traveling between various worlds, which are significantly different from each other. The second is the dispersion of how the worlds look – from fantasy dungeons to sci-fi interiors in the spirit of Alien. And the third definitely belongs to shooting, which goes hand in hand with a relatively high challenge placed on the player. If you add the nice fact that Remnant II looks great, you have a summer surprise that you definitely shouldn’t miss. More in our review.
Naturally functional multiplayer co-op Diverse aesthetics of post-apocalyptic worlds Significant amount of ingenious puzzles, dungeons and rewards Smooth graphics and sensational music Clean and rewarding action, interwoven with decent RPG elements Uneven difficulty scaling in co-op Repeated play reveals weaknesses in generated level design Camera and control in tight corridors really hurts Checkpoint spacing they are not always ideal
This year has brought us some pleasant surprises, and Remnant 2 ranks among them for its sheer fun, sensational co-op, and generally great work with limited content. Although you will encounter a number of problems with control, navigation and fatigue arising from the procedurally generated environment, the sharp action and atmosphere of the title, on the other hand, definitely rise above the level of typical AA games.
