Mexico City. Income from remittances in September saw a sharp decline. In the reference period, money transfers from Mexicans residing abroad totaled 5,359 million dollars, data that showed an annual reduction of 4.6 percent, the Bank of Mexico (BdeM) reported this Friday.
According to the information published by the institution, the amount corresponding to the ninth month of 2024 also represented a drop of 11.9 percent compared to last August, when income of 6.87 million dollars was reported.
The accumulated amount of remittance income between January and September of this year amounted to 48,386 million dollars, an amount greater than the 47,091 million dollars reported in the same period of 2023, a figure that represented an annual increase of 2.8 percent.
The central bank indicated that the accumulated flow of remittance income in the last twelve months, that is, between October 2023 and last September, was 64,614 million dollars, an amount less than the twelve-month accumulated value registered in August. passed 64,872 million dollars.
The BdeM revealed that in the ninth month, remittance income was derived from 13 million 800 thousand transactions, with an average sending of 388 dollars, a figure lower than the 407 reported in August and the 404 dollars observed in September of last year.
The amount reported in the first nine months was the result of 122 million 367 thousand transactions, in which the average sent was 395 dollars, a figure higher by one unit of the US currency compared to the same period in 2023.
