Remembrance Day May 4 decided ceremony, which can be followed via livestream

Heemstede – On May 4, Heemstede will commemorate the dead and on May 5 is the celebration of Liberation Day. Just like last year, we do this largely at home as a result of the corona crisis. There is a private ceremony at the monuments on the Vrijheidsdreef, attended by a few invited guests. Residents can follow the live stream of this commemoration at home via Facebook or YouTube.

Wreath laying on May 4 during the day
In the morning, the mayor will place a wreath at the Eerebeg cemetery in Overveen, together with representatives of the municipalities from regional municipalities in a closed circle (so without the press or public). She will also lay wreaths at the four graves of Heemsteed resistance heroes in the Eerebeg cemetery. The municipality will also provide a wreath at the memorial plaque for Marinus Vaumont in the Jacob van Campenstraat (corner Havenstraat).

Flags
If you want to commemorate the victims of the Second World War by flying at half-mast on 4 May, the city council would particularly appreciate this. The tribute is from 6pm until sunset (shortly after 9pm). On Liberation Day 5 May, the flag can be placed at the top between sunrise and sunset. (Both 4 and 5 May flags without orange pennant).
