The Régiment de la Chaudière commemorated Remembrance Day on Sunday, November 7 at Mathieu Park in Beauceville.
For a second year in a row, the COVID-19 pandemic forced organizers to a more modest event. About forty soldiers participated in a short parade to the cenotaph.
During the ceremony, a prayer was read relating in particular to the duty of remembrance towards soldiers who lost their lives during their service. “Arouse in us the dream of a world where war will be nothing more than a memory, that the sacrifices that we remember today were not made in vain, that the immense price paid in the flesh and the blood can contribute to the advent of that day when every nation will experience peace and freedom, ”we said.
The participants then kept a minute’s silence in honor of the missing. Then, several dignitaries placed a wreath at the foot of the cenotaph on which are inscribed the names of the 241 soldiers of the Régiment de la Chaudière who died during the Second World War. Among them were the mayor of Beauceville, François Veilleux, the provincial deputy for Beauce-Nord, Luc Provençal and the federal deputy for Beauce, Richard Lehoux.
Remember that the commemoration of Remembrance Day always takes place the Sunday before November 11 in Beauceville.
