“Remembering Xu Xueren: Master of Philology Passes Away at age 71”

Xu Xueren, a master of philology, passed away on the 12th at the age of 71. Relatives and friends revealed on Facebook that Professor Xu struggled with stroke for nearly half a year, but finally lost to the disease.

Xu Xueren is a professor at Donghua University and a former editor-in-chief of the Mandarin Dictionary Editing Committee. His highest degree is a Doctor of Letters from the National Taiwan Normal University Institute of Chinese Language and Literature. His research expertise is in philology, exegesis, and courses and teaching in the field of Chinese. He is committed to the research and development of Sinology such as the collation of ancient characters. He has won the Zhongxing Literature and Art Medal.

Xu Xueren once participated in the public TV program “One Character Thousand Gold” program to explain Chinese characters, and the wonderful interpretation was well received.
