Virginia Catherine Thompson Snider, age 89, was born in Hinton, West Virginia, on December 3, 1933. She was the daughter of the late Fred and Mae Mann Thompson. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Francis Snider.
Ginger is survived by her sister, Jane E. Thompson of Old Hickory. Tennessee; her 2 sons, Richard Steven Taylor, wife Patty, and daughter, Victoria, of Eagle, Colorado, and Jeffrey Elliott Taylor, companion Jennifer, and her grandchildren, Aylen, Fawna, & Brandon, Jr. of Parkersburg, West Virginia; her niece Kelly Rae Large and family of Spring Hill, Tennessee; her very special granddaughter Leslie Hamilton, her husband Andrew. and Ginger’s favorite dog, Lucy of New Hudson, Michigan; granddaughter Katie Lewis, husband Ben and sons Noah and Liam of South Lyon, Michigan and son Jim Snider, Jr. of Highland Michigan.
She graduated from Hinton High School in 1951 and kept in touch with most of her classmates, helping to organize many class reunions.
Ginger had many and varied interest, ceramics, writing poetry, doing crossword puzzles, cooking and canning. She was an expert at crochet and many family and friends treasure beautiful gifts of the afghans she gave them. She loved playing Hand & Foot, and rolling the bones playing Greed. She always played rummy with her sister every chance she got and usually lost. Above all, Ginger loved “purple everything’, but especially on her nails and her “Purple Rollator” that made her a star wherever she went . She was a proud member of the Red Hatters Club, First United Methodist Church in Hinton, Friends of the Summers County Library, Summers County Historical Society, Ballengee Farm Club and Neighborhood Association, Hinton Woman’s Club, the Wednesday Club, and the Advisory Council for Children’s Home Society in Lewisburg.
Ginger moved to Michigan with her first husband, Benny Taylor, in 1953, and remained there until she moved back to her hometown with her husband Jim Snider. She was very happy to be back home. She and Jim were very popular residents and gifted many people with loaves of homemade bread and pizzas.
Ginger had a great personality and never met a stranger. She had many friends and always enjoyed family get togethers.
In later years she had so many wonderful people in her life. Special among them is her cousin, Kent Bartgis and his wife Anna Lou who helped her so much. They have been with her all along this final journey, along with cousins, Tom and Donna Conway. The most precious gift anyone gave her is the love and care that Betty and John Hendrick have bestowed on Ginger after her return to Hinton, especially during her surgery this year and after care. Betty and John, along with Kent and Anna Lou, have been Ginger’s guardian angels.
At Ginger’s request there will be no funeral. In December, near her 90th birthday, there will be a Memorial “Party” to celebrate her life.
