Remembering Trevor Francis: The Legend of Nottingham Forest and Two-Time European Championship Winner

He had a heart attack and Trevor Francis, the legend of the two-time European Championship winner Nottingham Forest, has passed awaythe first footballer for whom more than one million pounds was paid for the right to play in Great Britain – the sad news was reported by Guardian.

Francis made his debut for Birmingham City in 1970 aged 16 and played for the club until 1979, scoring 118 goals in 280 league appearances. In February 1979, Nottingham Forest paid just over a million pounds for him, making the accomplished striker the first British player to break that mark. In his first season at the club, his goal was the deciding factor in the European Champions Cup final against Malmö, and in the following season he won the trophy again with the club.

In the English national team, he scored 12 goals in 52 matches and played with the team at the 1982 World Cup.

“A true legend who will never be forgotten,” Nottingham Forest said in a statement following Francis’ death.
