One of the fascinating games of the USSR is Rubber Band. It was played mainly by girls. Boys also became participants, but more often chose more active games. Moreover, one could meet people playing absolutely everywhere – at school during recess, in the park, on playgrounds near the house and even in apartments, to the neighbors’ grief!
The game required a large rubber band, approximately 4 meters in size. It was not easy to get it, so fans of this game often had them stretched out, in knots and knitted from different parts. Often a clothesline was used for the game.
3 people participated in the game. If there were not enough people, a rubber band was tied to a tree or post, but it was less interesting to play.
What’s the point? Two people stood opposite each other and pulled the elastic band with their legs. The girl in the center began to perform different jumps, depending on the level, jumping between the stretched elastic bands in a special way. If the rubber band was accidentally touched or the jumps were not performed according to the rules, then the players changed. The game had several difficulty levels, as a result of which the position of the elastic band changed: from the ankles to the neck. The girl who completed the most levels won.
Regulations:
In versions of the game “Russian rubber bands,” each level was given a name, on which the number of repetitions of jumps depended. “Tens” – 10 repetitions, “fives” – five, and so on.
The game starts with tens. The player stands to the left of the elastic band, then jumps in with both feet, then jumps out to the right. “Nines.” You need to stand in the middle between the elastic bands and jump out of the elastic band with both legs, then return. “Eights.” Here the player stands in the center between the rubber bands, jumps on the rubber bands and returns to the center. “Sevens”. The starting position here is one foot in the center between the elastic bands, the left one outside. You need to jump 180 degrees to mirror the position of your legs and return back. “Sixes.” Everything is the same as in “Seven”, only the legs are on elastic bands. “Five”. This level is more difficult. The starting position is both legs to the left of the elastic bands. In the first jump, you need to hook the left rubber band with your right foot and jump over the right one. Then move your left leg into the resulting triangle. Then spread your legs shoulder-width apart, stretching the elastic bands in different directions, and jump out from the right side. “Fours.” This level seems easy, but it was important not to hit the rubber bands with your shoes while jumping. You need to start facing the elastic bands on the right side and jump over each one, first forward, then back. “Cs”. We stand outside facing the elastic band on the left, then we jump forward, grab the left elastic band with both feet, and land with our toes on the right one. We make a jump with a 180 degree turn, getting rid of the rubber bands from our legs. We land on the outside right, facing the rubber band. Then you need to repeat everything in the opposite direction. “Twos.” Again we are to the left of the elastic band. We jump by stepping with both feet (one in front, the other behind) on the left elastic band. Then jump 180°, step with both feet (one in front, the other behind) on the right elastic band. We repeat in the opposite direction. “Ones.” Start – stand outside with your back to the left elastic band. Then, while jumping, you need to hook the left rubber band with your two heels and land on the right rubber band with both feet. We jump out on the right, freeing our legs from the elastic bands, and stop behind the elastic band and face it.
Another popular version of the game was “German rubber bands”, the levels of which were called: Runners (pedestrians, rails), Steps, Bow, Candy (envelope), Boat and Handkerchief.
Those who managed to make it to the end were “transferred” to the next level by raising the rubber band. The game continued until all levels were completed or until the participants got tired.
Today, Rezinochka seems to be a thing of the past, but many people still have joyful memories of her:
“My favorite childhood game!!! Adore! I played avidly! The heels are falling off, the skirt is hanging on our ears, our hair is disheveled, we are red, sweaty, happy!” (the author’s spelling and punctuation have been preserved), they are nostalgic on the Internet.
