The year 2023 has been marked by sad losses in the world of entertainment, of well-known figures both nationally and internationally. In this celebration of the Day of the Dead, we remember some of these personalities:
Polo Polo (January 3)
Leopoldo Roberto García Peláez Benítez, who is more famous by his stage name Polo Polo, is widely recognized as the pioneer of stand-up comedy in Mexico and is one of the most prominent comedians in all of Latin America.
Lisa Marie Presley (12 enero)
The only descendant of Elvis Presley and his wife, Priscilla, lost her life due to a heart attack. She excelled in the field of acting and composition.
Lisa Loring (January 28)
She is mainly recognized for her role as the first Merlina Addams, but unfortunately, a stroke caused by high blood pressure ended in a fatal outcome. In addition to her iconic role, she also excelled in other productions, such as ‘As the World Turns’.
Irma Serrano ‘La Tigresa’ (March 1)
After suffering a sudden heart attack, the National Association of Interpreters (ANDI) reported the sad death of the famous star. This talented artist, who also ventured into politics, left an indelible mark on the entertainment scene of the 1960s in Mexico.
Ignacio López Tarso (March 11)
Ignacio López Tarso, best known for his iconic role as ‘Macario’, maintained his active career until he was 98 years old.
Fito Olivares (March 17)
Fito Olivares, the musician who created iconic cumbia songs like ‘Juana la cubana’ and ‘El cholesterol’, died due to complications from cancer.
Rebecca Jones (March 22)
Rebecca Jones, a prominent television actress and producer, faced a life marked by a prolonged battle with cancer. During her career, she achieved recognition thanks to her participation in notable productions such as ‘Cuna de lobos’.
Xavier López ‘Chabelo’ (March 25)
Xavier López, affectionately known as ‘Chabelo’, captivated the public from his beginnings in the Golden Age of Mexican Cinema and later with his popular Sunday program ‘En familia con Chabelo’, maintaining his image as an ‘eternal child’.
Andrés García (April 4)

Talina Fernandez (June 28)
Talina Fernández, known as the ‘lady of good sayings’, left an indelible mark as a television host in Mexico. However, her life was marked by difficult moments, such as the tragic loss of her daughter Mariana Levy.
Sinéad O’Connor (July 26)
Sinéad O’Connor, a singer of Irish origin, achieved international renown with her inaugural album ‘The Lion and the Cobra’ (1987). In addition, she was characterized by her political activism, standing out as a fervent defender of feminism and the rights of the LGBT + community, at the same time that she maintained a critical stance towards the Catholic Church.
Benito Castro (September 11)
