Remembering the Life and Legacy of Paralympic Champion Feng Yingqi

[Tilu News]Former Hong Kong badminton representative Chen Nianci posted on social media today (2nd) afternoon, revealing the news that local wheelchair fencing star Feng Yingqi, who won 5 Paralympic gold medals, passed away at the age of 43.

Chen Nianci said on social media that when she saw Feng Yingqi for the last time in the emergency room, her heart was full of reluctance and sadness. She also said that Feng Yingqi’s story will never be forgotten, describing him as “a dynamic and enthusiastic person” who is full of love and courage for life, is willing to help others, and always provides support and encouragement when others need it most. Chen Nianci continued to say that he regretted Feng Yingqi’s passing and would always miss his smile and kindness. He also wished him a happy journey and his family’s condolences and peace of mind.

Feng Yingqi was an able-bodied person until he was 13 years old. Later, the wound on his broken hand became infected, causing acute myelitis. The infection spread to his feet and he gradually became unable to walk and required a wheelchair. Fung Ying-ki later joined the Hong Kong Wheelchair Fencing Team and won the World Championships in 1998. He then competed in the Paralympic Games in 2000 and 2004, winning a total of 5 golds, 1 gold and 1 bronze. However, Feng Yingqi was suddenly able to stand again and slowly regained his ability to move. He once explained that he believed that a group of nerve lines responsible for movement was normal, but a group of nerve lines responsible for sensation had a problem, so although he had no consciousness, he could regain his ability to move. . Feng Yingqi continued his studies after ending his career as an athlete. He studied for a doctorate in the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and then switched to a master’s degree program in physiotherapy at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He has also participated in the Standard Chartered Marathon Wheelchair Race and won the championship many times. Feng Yingqi was selected as one of the top ten outstanding youths in 2013.
