The distinguished artist Thanaa Debsi passed away on Tuesday evening at the age of 83, after a rich artistic career in dozens of theatrical, cinematic and television works that began in the mid-fifties of the last century.
The Syndicate of Artists and the Syrian Cultural Center mourned the late Thanaa Debsi. She was born in the city of Aleppo in 1941 and began her journey with acting when she was a young girl at school concerts in her city. She learned to dance the Samah and sing the Muwashahat and Qudud. She then moved on to participate in artistic activities that were organized by the Popular Theater Club troupe in Aleppo and trained. At the hands of the late musician Bahjat Hassan, which helped her develop her speaking skills, in addition to her passion for reading books, especially theater and psychology, which she relied on in analyzing the characters she was based on.
Because acting on stage fascinated her from the beginning, she participated in at least three works during one theatrical season, and it is recorded that she was one of the first actors who contributed to the launch of the National Theater in Syria in the early sixties, and through it she presented many performances, including Heroes of Our Country and The School of Scandals.
Her personality forced the directors of the drama to frame her within the framework of a compassionate mother, while she sought change, as she preferred to perform different roles, especially the comedic characters that appealed to her.
The late great artist, Thanaa Dibsi, filled the drama with many roles that were entrenched in the memory of the viewer, such as Al-Qasr Lane, Haroun Al-Rashid, Shajarat Al-Durr, the second story from the biography of Bani Hilal, the Green Princess, the Wolves, Abu Kamel, Green Hearts, Bab Al-Hadid, the biography of the Al-Jalali family, Rainbow 2, the Four Seasons, Letters of Love and War, and Turjuman. Longings.
The late artist Thanaa Debsi’s acting performance was characterized by strong identification with the character’s psychological state and controlled emotion, as she participated in three films produced by the General Film Foundation, namely The Deceived, Al-Lajat, and A Short Time.
During her rich artistic career, the late great woman received many awards and honors, including being honored at the Damascus Theater Festival in 2004, and she was one of the honorees within the Syrian Culture Celebration in 2020.
