Remembering the Legacy of Leopold Grausam: A Tribute to an SK Rapid Vienna Legend

Leopold Grausam died last Friday at the age of 80.

As SK Rapid Vienna announced on Monday, the Hütteldorfers will wear mourning ribbons in the upcoming home game against WAC and there will also be a minute’s mourning.

Grausam came to Rapid as a 16-year-old after a successful trial training session and, despite a serious injury, scored a remarkable 70 goals in 180 competitive games between 1963 and 1970.

On his competitive debut he scored four goals in a 5-0 home win against Kapfenberg. Grausam became champion three times with Rapid and won the ÖFB Cup twice. The Viennese played eight times for the national team.

“Green-white through and through”

Steffen Hofmann, managing director of SK Rapid, explains: “The news of Leopold Grausam’s passing makes me very sad. He was one of those players who contributed an enormously important part to the fame of SK Rapid and he was happy to take as long as he could actively participated in club life. We will keep Mr. Grausam’s memory worthy and on behalf of SK Rapid I would like to express my sincere condolences to the bereaved in this way.”

Dietmar Hoscher, President of the SK Rapid Legends Club, says: “Poldi Grausam was a Green and White through and through and made history with and for the club. He will live on in the memories of numerous Green and Whites and I would also like to do so on behalf of the Legends Club send my condolences to his family and friends.”
