Remembering the Legacy of Director Paolo Taviani: A Tribute to a Cinematic Genius

At 6pm the director Paolo Taviani, 92 years old, died in Rome in the Villa Pia clinic after a short illness. He passed away close to his wife Lina Nerli Taviani and his children Ermanno and Valentina. The secular funeral ceremony will be held on Monday 4 March at the Capitol Promototheque from 10am to 1pm.

Born in San Miniato on 8 November 1931, together with his brother Vittorio, who passed away on 15 April 2018, he came to Rome from Tuscany in the 1950s where they became one of the most close-knit couples in cinema.

With 20 films behind them (not counting documentaries, advertisements and a few missing shorts such as the last episode of “Tu ridi”) as many major awards and a Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement (in 1986), the two brothers have demonstrated what passion, constancy, rigor and fidelity to reality can be rewarded.
