It has been 45 years since composer Hassan Ghandour passed away early, leaving behind some of his melodies and songs that fill the void and deterioration. Even the beginning of his song “Naj al-Hawa” was quoted by the Turkish singer and composer Ibrahim Talas at the beginning of his famous song “Aramam.” Hassan Ghandour was born in Nabatieh Al-Fawqa in 1925. Since his childhood, he had been fascinated by musical instruments and the harmonious or dissonant sounds they produced, so he was drawn to them. The family did not encourage him to move in this direction, so he came to Beirut and lived in Basta. He received his first lessons at Basin Al-Wilaya School, and his father died when he was not thirteen years old. He left school and began working in many professions to provide a living for his family. In 1946, he joined the gendarmerie band as a brass instrument player with the enthusiasm of the Fleifel brothers, but he resigned after two years to join the school of musician Abdel-Ghani Shaaban and study under him the principles of music, playing the oud, singing styles, and notation.
