When the Pope arrived at the cemetery, he was welcomed by Italian administrative officials. He then went in a wheelchair to lay flowers and pray silently in front of the tombs of some soldiers. After the prayers, Mass begins.
In his homily, the Pope reflected on “memory and hope.” Regarding memory, the Pope pointed out, “the memory of our ancestors who lived their whole life and ended their earthly life; the memory of the many people who were kind to us: in our families, among our friends…. Finally, the Pope prayed: “Let us pray to the Lord for our dead and for everyone: May the Lord accept everyone. We also ask God to have mercy on us and to give us hope: hope that moves people forward and Let us be able to walk together with everyone toward the Lord when we are called by him.”
