A brilliant bel canto singer who, strictly speaking, did not have a “beautiful” voice, a captivating interpreter of Puccini and Verismo, whose soprano voice was not always able to bring the vocal weight to the drama of this genre – Renata Scotto, born in Savona in 1934 united what seemed incompatible. Her rise to the Olympus of singers as one of the great sopranos of the 20th century was difficult. With a willingness to work, discipline and above all with outstanding musicality, she nevertheless managed to triumph over vocal limitations and the resistance she always encountered in her career.
