“Remembering Stanislava Lekešová: The TV Presenter Who Hid Her Cancer from the World”

Do you remember the popular announcer and presenter of the program Sama doma Stanislava Lekešová (†63)? Four years ago, her viewers received overwhelming news, namely that the presenter died suddenly during the Christmas holidays in 2019. She was diagnosed with an aggressive type of cancer. But she didn’t tell anyone about her illness, except her loved ones. She would have celebrated her sixty-seventh birthday on May 29.

Stanislava Lekešová she originally intended to become a lawyer, as she graduated from law school. The interesting thing is that she came to her profession as a TV announcer almost by accident, through an advertisement. Even though she didn’t know much about broadcasting, she answered the offer and won the audition. She first broadcast for kindergartens and worked as an announcer until 1998. From this year she started a career as a presenter and hosted a women’s program Alone at home.

She hid her cancer from the world until her last breath

At the moment when Lekešová was diagnosed with a very aggressive type of cancer, she decided to share her diagnosis only with those closest to her. But she hid her illness from her colleagues, viewers and the whole world until her last breath and silently disappeared before their eyes. She was getting thinner and thinner day by day, and no one knew why. She died on Boxing Day at home among her loved ones. She was supported by her daughter Kristina, son Filip and husband Vladimír.

She had a fairytale relationship with her daughter

The daughter of the popular announcer confided almost two months after her mother’s death how beautiful their relationship was and how much her death affected her: “I can’t imagine a closer mother-daughter relationship than the one we had. I always trusted my mother with everything, I went to her for advice and we spent a lot of free time together. She was my best friend, absolutely irreplaceable in everything!“, said her daughter Kristina. “It is heartbreaking that she will never see me walk down the aisle or hold my children, but what she passed on to me will be with me for the rest of my life, as will her soul,” she wrote on her social networks.
