Actor Ryan O’Neal has died at the age of 82. His son Patrick announced this on Instagram.

The American has starred in numerous films and series. He made his breakthrough in the 1960s as Rodney Harrington in the soap Peyton Place. That series, in which O’Neal appeared in more than 500 episodes, was broadcast in the Netherlands by Avro. In the movie A Bridge Too Far (A Bridge Too Far), about the Battle of Arnhem in World War II, he played General James Gavin.

For his role in the film Love Story from 1970 he was nominated for an Oscar. Among the younger audience, O’Neal will be best known for the television series Boneswhere he played the role of the protagonist’s father.

In 2001, O’Neal was diagnosed with a form of leukemia. Ten years ago he was diagnosed with prostate cancer.

On Instagram, his son wrote that his father “passed away peacefully today, with his loving team by his side, who supported him and loved him as he would love us.”
