Russian hockey player Rodion Amirov died at the age of 21, who had been fighting a brain tumor for almost two years.
His death was announced by Toronto, which selected the vice-champion of the under-18 world from 2019 three years ago as the fifteenth player in the draft. Amirov died in Munich, where he was receiving treatment.
“During his courageous battle, Rodion inspired everyone around him and made a big impression on the team and the fans during his short visits to Toronto,” said Canadian club president Brendan Shanahan. “It is incredibly sad to see such a promising youngster leave so soon.”
Amirov last played in the 2021/22 season, when he played in ten KHL games for Ufa.
