Russian hockey player Rodion Amirov died at the age of 21. The huge talent, who was chosen by the overseas NHL club Toronto Maple Leafs in the first round of the 2020 draft from the 15th place, fought the disease for two years. His agent Dan Milstein confirmed the news on social media.

Rodion Amirov signed a three-year rookie contract with Toronto in 2021. In the same year, he became the best scorer of the Russian national team at the junior championship.
“The entire management of the Toronto Maple Leafs is devastated by this tragic loss. While he was fighting, his positivity inspired everyone around him and during his occasional visits to Toronto he made a huge impression on the fans and the team.” wrote club president Brendan Shanan on Twitter.
