Paul Reubens, the American actor who became famous for playing Pee-wee Herman, has died of cancer at the age of 70.

Reubens was born in New York in 1952 and accumulated more than five decades of experience as an actor, writer and director, but it was his alterego Pee-wee Herman who marked his career.
In 1980, the actor gave life to the character who always wore short hair and a red bow on “The Pee-wee Herman Show.” An immediate success, he became the protagonist of an HBO special under the same name in 1981 and, four years later, directed by Tim Burton, he released “Pee-wee’s Big Adventure.”
