During his life, he appeared in many film and serial roles. But the most significant one will probably forever remain his portrayal of the robber Osvald in the film Lucie, the terror of the street and … and that Lucie again!. However, the talented actor could play many other roles. Unfortunately, fate wanted it differently.
Michael Hofbauer was born on January 6, 1964 in Prague and began his acting career as a nine-year-old boy. He discovered his talent Zdenek Zelenka right in the school desks when he chose him for the film Wow guys. Hofbauer, then still a child actor, began to gain experience and popularity. In the following years, he appeared in a number of films, the most notable of which were Waiting for the rain, Brontosaurus a Forbidden trip.
Villain characters
In the 1970s and 1980s, Hofbauer became famous mainly for the role of various robbers, with the most famous character being Oswald in the movie Lucie, the terror of the street and …and that Lucie again!. His acting talent was obvious and natural and despite his young age he won the hearts of the audience.
Continuing acting career
After finishing elementary school, Hofbauer trained as a grocer, but continued to pursue an acting career. His other notable roles included a positive character in the film Don’t call me Major.

In later years, Hofbauer appeared in many other films and series such as Look, he’s flying, Tank battalion a Gels. He demonstrated his artistic abilities not only on the film screen, but also in television shows and series.
A personal tragedy
After the war, Hofbauer supported himself by doing various jobs, including selling in a store and cleaning the subway. From 1989 he worked as a lighting engineer at the Theater in Vinohrady, where he also occasionally played minor roles. However, his life was marked by a long-term illness, when he suffered from a malignant tumor in the neck. Despite a series of operations and radiation, the actor died on January 10, 2013 after a long struggle.
Last days
Michael Hofbauer fought the disease for several years, but until the last moment he tried to remain active in the acting world. His last great wish was to undergo plastic surgery and return to filming. Unfortunately, he died just before her. Just a few days after his 49th birthday.
Michael Hofbauer left behind an unforgettable legacy in the Czech film and television industry. His story is an example of hope, talent and courage, but also tragedy and loss. Although his life was short, his influence on Czech culture and art is immense.
